New to Girl Scouts?

For those who are just entering the world of Girl Scouts, it can feel overwhelming at times.  Our hope is to simplify things for you.

Uniform:
We're bridging to Cadettes!  This will be the last Girl Scout vest you'll buy for your daughter.  She'll wear the same vest 6th-12th grade.  This is the khaki vest with the blue insignia tab (see below).  I have picked up the troop crests for the girls, so you simply need the basic bridging package.

When your daughter begins, do NOT iron on the earned badges or the Journey patches - these are earned awards and the girls will add them to their tunics/vest as they are earned.  You will need to iron on the Flag, Council Patch, Troop Numbers (3971), and our troop crest (unicorn).  Also be sure to add the insignia tab.  If these words all sound greek to you, simply let them know at the council shop (where you purchase these items) that you are a second year Junior, and they will help you put together the package.

Troop Crest:

There are starter packs available (which I highly recommend).  It works out to the same cost, but your daughter will get a free bag as well (while supplies last).  If finances are an issue, please let me know - there is always scholarship money available and we never want to lose a girl due to financial constraints.

Badge vs. Patch
A big question I hear is "Where does this badge/patch my daughter brought home belong?".  Badges are things the girls earn - the majority of them will be diamond shaped - and they belong on the front of the vest.  See the above diagrams for further clarification.  Patches are things the girls receive for participating in an activity.  They come in a variety of shapes and belong on the back of the vest.  These patches (or fun patches) can be placed anywhere the girls would like on the back.
